Last month, the Brown Corporation appointed a new a Vice Chancellor for the university, and it’s one of the BCDC community’s own! Pamela Reeves ’87 P’22 is an international development and policy strategist, a champion of women’s rights and democracy, and avid Brown supporter.
A proud Providence native, Pamela concentrated in International Relations at Brown, with a focus on transitions to democracy, which she continued to pursue both professionally and through an M.A. from Yale. She was the U.N. human rights officer in Liberia during that country’s civil war, and has worked in over 20 countries on governance transitions over the past three decades. Pamela directed Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton’s International Fund for Women and Girls at the U.S. Department of State, and advised philanthropist Melinda Gates on gender strategy.
In addition to serving on the Brown Corporation since 2016, as Co-Chair of the Brown Annual Fund, and as an officer of the Board of Governors of the John Carter Brown Library, Pamela is a Senior Fellow in International and Public Affairs at the Watson Institute. In that capacity, she’s taught classes on national security and on investing in women for global growth, both here in DC and on campus.
Outside of her packed professional and volunteer schedule, Pamela can be found spending time with her three children (including her soon-to-be Brown graduate), traveling (now that we can again) and continuing to explore DC.
We are grateful to Pamela’s contributions to the Brown community. Join us in congratulating her as she takes on the new role of Vice Chancellor effective July 1, 2022!
