Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award and a New York Times Notable Book.

“Compelling and compulsively readable riff on the classic detective novel.  Lionel Essrog is an orphan whose tourettic impulses drive him to bark, count and rip apart our language in startling and original ways. Lionel spins the narrative as he tracks down the killer of his boss. Lethem really pulls it all off.  The author probes so convincingly into the disorder that you feel rattled and irritated but sympathetic towards the narrator. Edgy fiction at breakneck speed with clever wordplay  and non-stop irony.” – Barnes & Noble
