Weekly since 2020, BCDC has showcased a Local Arts Hero that’s keeping the lights on in a challenging moment. This week we’ve chosen Filmfest DC ’22!
With an annual audience of over 16,000, FilmFest DC has become an internationally-acclaimed mainstay, as well as a treasured partner to local cultural institutions and public schools. Selected screenings span the gamut from dramas and comedies to documentaries, animation, film shorts, and family-friendly fare. Two recurring highlights in the lineup this year include DC4Reel, which showcases local filmmakers, and Justice Matters, a competitive section of new films that celebrate activism.
After 36 years of bringing the best in contemporary world cinema to our capital city, the festival returned this past Thursday (April 21) for 11 days of both virtual and in-person happenings.
Festivities kicked off at the MLK Library with Mission: Joy – Finding Happiness in Troubled Times, a feature-length documentary that delves into the friendship between the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu. Other offerings will be hosted at Landmark’s E Street Cinema, the Embassy of France, the National Gallery of Art, and Transit Pier at The Wharf.
