Since 2019, JxJ has provided public programming that encompasses “talks” (from workshops to panel discussions, performances, and more). Its trademark annual festival featuring film and music is held each May at venues throughout the DC area, and in fact kicks off tonight (Thursday, May 12)!
While JxJ pivoted to a virtual format in 2020, and transitioned into a hybrid one last year, it has returned to in-person events for the 2022 festival. This year’s ilm offerings include the international premiere (followed by Q&A with the director) of Shalom Putti (pictured above), a documentary that follows an encounter between a little-known Jewish community in rural Uganda and a group of Orthodox Israeli rabbis for over seven years.
The festival’s musical highlights include BETTY, an alt-rock group formed in 1980s DC that’s renowned for feminist activism and the theme song for Showtime’s The L Word. BETTY will perform a mainstage concert and anchor an interactive family workshop designed for elementary-school-aged kids.
